Our nationally recognized industry-leading 10878NAT Gap Training provides the Minimum Australian Context Gap training to skilled migrants holding an OTSR (Offshore Technical Skills Record). If you are an overseas Air Conditioning technician looking to catch up on the Australian standards and regulations, this is the right course for you.

The course includes units that will assist the student to understand how to apply Australian Work Health and Safety practices in the air conditioning workplace, Document and apply control measures for Australian refrigeration and air conditioning workplace hazards and risks, apply Australian standards to solve refrigeration and air conditioning low voltage circuit problems, disconnect and reconnect fixed wired electrical equipment connected to a low voltage supply, recover, pressure and leak test, evacuate and charge refrigerants, install and diagnose faults in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

The theory component of the units will be delivered online, each student will follow them at his/her own pace and there will be online catch-up Zoom sessions with the trainer to address all the inquires that might arise for this. The students will need to come to our Ingleburn campus on average once per month to complete the practical component of the units. The estimated completion time is 6-8 months depending on the student’s commitment.

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify occupational health and safety hazard and risks and documenting control measures. It encompasses identifying workplace hazards, assigning levels of risk, developing control measures to eliminate and/or mitigate risks, reviewing risk control measures and maintaining documentation of hazards, risk control measures and their application in accordance with compliance procedures.
  • Recover, pressure test, evacuate, charging and leak testing recovery of refrigerants and lubricants from refrigeration systems and air conditioning systems. It encompasses working safely and to standards, following regulations and industry practices for handling refrigerants and lubricants, and completing the necessary documentation
  • Install refrigeration and air conditioning systems including unitary equipment, compressors, condensers, evaporators, liquid receivers, pipework, ventilation and air handling (excluding central plant) and associated equipment. It encompasses working safely and to installation standards to match equipment with that specified for a given specification and location, connecting pipe work and components, and complete the necessary installation documentation.
  • Install, set up, test, fault find, repair, and maintain refrigeration systems and equipment that apply to food storage and preservation, air conditioning and air distribution equipment in buildings and premises. It includes regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants.

Applicants must:

  • Minimum language, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Hold an Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) for a UEE32211 Certificate III Air Conditioning Refrigeration (or successor)
  • Hold a provisional/restricted license issued by the regulatory authority responsible for regulating air conditioning work and licensing of workers in the jurisdiction where the training will take place.
  • Be engaged (employed) as an air conditioning worker or have access to a workplace environment that replicates workplace conditions
  • Hold a certificate of currency for resuscitation (CPR) within the last twelve months with a valid statement of attainment.
